The Cen Gen Story Slam is an open-mic storytelling event at the Centennial YMCA Center of Generations, an event facilitated by The Clue Room Experience Company. Theme: Celebrate a Milestone

In honor of the Centennial YMCA Center of Generations 2 Year Anniversary, we want you to share a milestone you celebrated! Was it an A on a test you? How about a friendship that lasted the years? Wedding Anniversary? Big birthday? How about when you brought a new pet home? Nothing is too small to celebrate! So come and share it!

Door Open at 4:30PM. Story Slam begins at 5PM, so be sure to show up early to sign up!

In Case You Missed It

In case you missed it, March’s Cen Gen Story Slam (Vol. 1) was a blast! Not only was it a fantastic turn out, but we had over a dozen folks share stories from different generations! To be honest, we had several contingency plans for how many folks might participate. Spoiler alert: We didn’t need any of them. After the Cen Gen Vol. 1, so many individuals came up to me and said “I could have told a story!” They realized how not so scary it is when you’re in a room of folks that just want a space to share and connect. 

As MC, the biggest surprise for me was how many individuals have had scary close call nature stories. With our next theme and this very special Cen Gen Story Slam, we look forward to celebrating the 2 Year Anniversary of the Centennial YMCA Center of Generations and to the amazing stories we’ll hear.

Why Attend the Cen Gen Story Slam?

We hadn’t heard of Story Slams up until the Summer of 2024. The concept was brought to to us by Paula, the Program Engagement Representative for the Centennial YMCA Center of Generations while we were hosting a Clue Hunt for their 1 Year Anniversary. The Clue Room family and Paula were lucky enough to attend one in Denver in the Fall! In fact one of our owners, Todd, and I, Managing Director, Veronica, were picked to compete in the Story Slam!

For the Cen Gen event, we wanted to encourage more folks to participate by eliminating the judging and scoring system. As fun as it was to compete, what we really enjoyed was the fun of sharing a story in front of people. I was very nervous at first and before getting picked I questioned why I entered to be chosen. But once I finished telling my story not only did I want to go again, but I realized the nerves and fear were gone. Maybe that was in part to having told my story and being done, but I remembered that everyone was there for the same reason: Community.

Story Slams bring this unique and fun sense of community. You’re sharing stories and listening to others share theirs creating a safe space to learn about and meet new people. You can even experience the fun without sharing a story. So I encourage you to attend! It will be unlike any gathering you’ve experienced before. I guarantee!
